SplendidStory-Editor’sPick

Excuse Us While We “Play Favorites”

Sometimes it’s the topic, others, the enjoyment that comes from picking an interesting interviewee’s brain. Either way,  a particular SplendidStory often becomes the “flavor of the month” when the words flow as if powered by themselves and the task of telling the person’s tale turns into a passionate endeavor. Recently, SplendidlySaid’s Elaine Rogers, crawled into the head of Dallas photographer Tim Edington to produce an artist’s profile for his new website, and his growing list of patrons and followers.

FYI: The end result is also a terrific example of the way our SplendidStories program helps businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits and others share information about themselves and their missions in a unique way that, beyond simply putting the message “out there,” forges a more personal connection with potential customers and provides a versatile and effective marketing tool that’s reusable (i.e. reprintable) in multiple formats ranging from newsletters and  stakeholder magazines to web pages and press releases.

How cool is that??

Here’s hoping you enjoy  Tim’s brief business profile & a recent Editor’s Pick for a SplendidStory. To read more about this talented artist and see samples of his work, please visit timedingtonphotography.com (and tell him Elaine Rogers sent you).

                             CAPTURING THE MAGIC

From time to time, most of us stumble upon rare, fanciful moments when a glance at something ordinary demands a doubletake, and what’s familiar or commonplace seems extraordinary, as if it were touched by a wisp of magic. Imagination captured and pulse quickened, there’s a brief sense of the surreal, fleeting and fragile, then the wonderment fades and doubts arise. Our minds move on to mundane matters and it all seems a mere flight of fancy, a hiccup in an otherwise average day.

A patient man, Tim Edington waits for photo-worthy moments to reveal themselves.

Without cameras to record these capricious images when we encounter them — or the forethought to use them when we do — we plod through our lives, largely unaware or forgetful of the many visual treasures that surround us.

“I think people just get preoccupied,” says Dallas photographer Tim Edington, owner and featured artist at timedingtonphotography.com.  “They miss things that seem so obvious when you’re out there, observing and really looking at your surroundings.”

Edington has been devoting his energies to the mission of “capturing the magical moments that resonate with people” for close to 30 years, first as a hobby and, eventually, as a professional passion. He shares his art and his unique perspective with a line of photography-based stationary carried in several Dallas boutiques and most recently, with a select sampling of thought-provoking, inspirational images for sale as framed prints and canvass artworks via art.com and it’s unique ArtistRising program.

Artisans often demonstrate powers of observation that many of us lack, and it takes a patient perspective and an almost scientific approach to search out the views that are worth painting onto our permanent memory banks, then record them and capture the magic. The beauty of this, Edington says, is that you never know for sure what you’re going to find.

“Sometimes it’s just the way the wind fluffs a tuft of feathers on an eagle you’ve spotted up on his nest or the way a cluster of leaves swirl in unison as they bob their way down a whitecapped stream,” he says. “These moments are all around us. You just stumble upon a pretty setting, but some part of it seems particularly serene, tranquil, or even a little bit surreal.

Born and raised in Poplar Bluff, MO., Edington, has an innate ability to spot the “visual treasures” and he often returns to the Ozark Mountains and the region’s breathtaking terrain for inspiration. Out in nature, revisiting childhood haunts along Missouri rivers and in area parks, he finds many vistas worthy of note — and when he sees them, his camera is there to transform the fleeting moments into permanent art.

Combining the careful patience of a scientific researcher and an artisan’s dramatic flair, he puts himself in position to observe the world, then meticulously records his findings.

The results?
Captured magic.
